We took tons of pictures. It was so amazing to see and touch something that was created that long ago!!! Pompeii was destroyed, and completely buried, during a catastrophic eruption of the volcano Mount Vesuvius on 24 August 79 AD. The volcano buried Pompeii under many meters of ash, and it was lost for 1,600 years before its accidental rediscovery in 1748.
This was from outside the city. There was a wall that completely enclosed the city.
This was the gladiator arena.
Another view of the gladiator arena.
This was a small theater.
